I'm from Los Angeles and I'm a sushi junkie. I have to get my fix every other day or I get the shakes. I'd been in Italy without sushi for about 10 days or so and was in panic mode. My husband and I had failed a mission to find sushi in the riviera, when the place we were trekking to - that apparently did Japanese/Italian fusion, whatever that can possibly be - was closed upon our arrival.

When we got to Florence, I was pleased to see a number of local sushi restaurants... However when I tried to find a reservation for dinner it seemed that most of the ones that looked good we're all full. Da Kou seemed more like a ramen spot from the description but we decided to chance it, and thankfully it exceeded my expectations.

To start we had miso soup and seaweed salad. Both were wonderful. The miso broth was actually the best I've had in some time. Rich and flavorful. So often miso seems weak and watered down. Not the case here at all. Perhaps this ramen place thing was a plus after all.

We had the meat gyoza, tuna tataki, and a specialty roll with shrimp tempura and spicy mayo. Again, everything was very good. The gyoza were large and flavorful, plump and juicy inside, with a pan crisp on the outside. The tuna tataki is seared and sesame crusted. The fish was fresh, and the texture wasn't chewy at all. And the roll was good. I wish they had more fresh roll options but the shrimp in this one was top notch. I personally could've done without so much of the mayo, but no biggie, I removed half as I ate each piece.

We decided to skip dessert but the waitress brought us a little plate of fresh pineapple with butterscotch on the house. Great service. And I got my fix! Phew.

This is NOT a Japanese restaurant, it is Chinese disguised as Japanese. They have dim sum on the menu, but that isn't the bad part. Both the service and food are terrible, Ramen tastes like Chinese noddle, rice used to make the roll is mushy. And service is even worse than the food.

OMG what I ate was not ramen and sushi by any measure.  I have eaten sushi and ramen throughout the US, Asia and parts of Europe and never ever have I been served lettuce in a bloody spider roll before.  Like seriously?! WTH?!  I had the ramen ajisen as well and that was rubbish too.  Listen man, What makes ramen ramen is the noodles, the broth and the taste/texture of the meat.  The ramen ajisen I had was off on all 3 counts, like wayyyyy off.  I can't possibly understand how this restaurant garnered these many good reviews?!?!  I walked out of there disappointed & annoyed.
However, I'm giving this place 2 stars for the general decor, ambiance and the server was friendly.  And Oh, the bottle of Asahi was pretty good.  After all, it's bottled beer so they can't possibly mess that up.

Cute new sushi place in the san lorenzo area. I was really excited after seeing the rave reviews on yelp. We are always on the hunt for a great sushi place and this one is very ornate inside, you can choose to sit on one of the lower tables which is really neat (ask for that in the reservation).

We ordered a few different dishes, including a delicious simple miso soup and a fried shrimp tempura with a bowl of ramen. Both were excellent. We also ordered a sushi 'barca' which came with a variety of sushi, sashimi etc. which were all very good, I did enjoy the freshness of the sashami.

We ordered a bottle of wine, which the only downside was there wasn't much explanation pr service in that regard, I did feel like the waiter was a bit rushed. Expect to pay around 42€ a person.

Dessert we tried fried milk which was very fried but oh my madonna latte it was great! I definitely recommend trying it, I saw they have special lunch menus so I will definitely be back with friends :-).

Fancy japanese restaurant hidden behind the majestic Basilica di San Lorenzo.

The menu is quite wide and presents a vast choice of fried food, noodles and rice dishes, soups and a little of appetizers.
They have special rolls too and the boat menu (osomaki, futomaki, nigiri, sashimi etc) where you get to have regular sushi for one or two persons (40€).
The miso has a rich taste and I saw desserts were quickly devoured, they also brought us a glass of lemon ice to clean our palates.

The place is beautifully furnished, black mahogany, spacious, with different styles of accomodations like the low table where you kneel, the regular tables, the private ones.
Kimonos and drawings representing Japan hanging all over, Bonsai trees and Oriental potteries, red is the main color contrasting the dark walls.

In the end we were 9 and we spent 38 € each, we were stuffed and satisfied, but still we all agreed that for such a restaurant prices are definitely too pretentious.
Though, they do have great lunch deals.
